OF THE MOMENT Holiday Season
Share
A current edit of inspirations from our founder, Stylist Kira Corbin.
My favorite gift to give is an elevated quotidian object. Something that the receiver can enjoy every day and that generally makes life a little nicer through its repeated use, something that spoils them a little. A soap that makes your home shower feel like a hotel spa moment, a nightly tea made at home that’s even better than the one you get at the coffee shop, a gorgeous ceramic salad bowl to put out with a week night dinner.
In contrast to what you might expect these are not affiliate links and, if I'm being truthful, this gift guide may double as a wish list. Things I’m eyeing to treat myself to (or already own), gift a loved one, or maybe both.
Additionally, gifting is an opportunity to put your money where your values are. The first place I turn for gifts are the small shops and businesses that I love year round and especially want to support during the holiday season. My husband and I will make a day of gift shopping, having lunch out (and a midday cocktail), and then browsing our favorite shops around town, letting the perfect gifts present themselves to us. I encourage you to do the same, but if you need any idea starters…

1_ Standard Affair Philo Napkin Set in Slate
Soft, 100% linen, and with a subtle jacquard pattern these napkins are a perfect example of an extra nice object to be used every day.
2_ Fluted Church Taper Candles
My favorite host gift for causal dinner parties is a set of high quality, beeswax taper candles. Elegant and useful.
3_ Claus Porto Vetyver Soap
A divine soap that will last a month or two in the shower providing not only extended enjoyment for the receiver, but a continual reminder of your good taste in gifting. Bonus: the packaging is so beautifully decorative that it doesn’t even need to be wrapped.
4_ Suzor Pineau des Amis
Something delicious and celebratory is a classic holiday treat. I’m not personally one for chocolates, but this fortified wine is just the kind of indulgence I get excited about.
5_ Le Sud Cookbook by Rebekah Peppler
Gift a year’s worth of cooking inspiration along with the feeling of being transported to France, vicariously living abroad. Meals and a mental vacation, all in one book.
6_ Brass Retractable Pen
For those of us who still prefer to live at least partially in an analog world, an upscaled pen makes daily jotting feel luxe.
7_ No. 122 Nocturne Tea
Bellocq produces wonderful teas and the gorgeous, refillable cannister elevates them to a pampering gift. I have an evening ritual of winding down with herbal teas and this one would be a perfect addition to my collection. (Hint, hint…)
8_ Van Gogh Puzzle
In the winter my in laws, who live in very chilly Vermont, have a habit of setting up a small table where an unhurried puzzle lives until completed and replaced by the next. A leisurely temptation for passersby at any time of day, the table is a place to take a relaxing hour in the evening, a mid afternoon rest, or few minutes after lunch to digest and ponder. On Christmas, with the small crowd, one is usually completed within the day. This one is a perfect candidate for this year.
9_ Wind God Incense Holder
Weighty cast brass and (look closely) the face of a mystical god make this incense holder feel quirky, special, and dimensional. A piece that adds character to a room.
10_ Standard Affair Pillar Deep Serving Bowl
The deep serving bowl is by far my favorite gift to give from my collection. It’s elegant, special feeling, and useful. The ideal combination of gifting traits.
